From a purist perspective, a domain name that is a generic term that is either commercially viable or geo-targeted is highly desirable for a domainer’s portfolio. One-word domains are deemed more valuable than multiple-words domains. Domain names that are acronyms that are short in the number of characters receive greater investment value.

For the affiliate marketer, domain names that contain keywords that are searched frequently are more attractive than domain names of generic terms. Why the difference here? When a website is constructed for search engine optimization (SEO) of a “buying” keyword, having the keyword in the domain name is favored by search engines in search rankings.

First, unique web pages should be used to promote each separate product or service.  A common mistake is to lump all of the offerings together just to save some money on web hosting.  It is most effective to devote a site to focus on one product and nothing more.

The site content should include product reviews to provide visitors with an initial understanding of the features and benefits of a given product or service.  Having testimonials from users of the product increases credibility, especially if these customers allow you to use their names and photos on the site of the specific product you are marketing.

Articles that highlight the uses of the product should be included as a separate page on the main site.  The pages should be both attractive and compelling, and calls to action should be included.  Headlines should prompt visitors to read more information, even to the point of them wanting to contact you.

Second, free reports should be given to your visitors.  Such free offers should be positioned at the very top side of the page for maximum visibility.  Creating autoresponder messages for visitors who opt-in to receive more information provides a venue to keep in contact with prospects.  This is important because useful information can be emailed to the visitors at certain specified period to remind them of the product they thought they want later.  One approach is to write the content of the email to focus on specific reasons to buy the product, but not to give a sales pitch.

Third, find ways to attract targeted traffic.  If your site is selling golf clubs, a visitor who is looking specifically for a cooking book would not be interested in what you are offering at the site.  Submission of articles for posting on e-zine sites or offering e-reports about your product would better attract potential customers who are actually interested in your products.  Successful marketers often write a minimum of two articles each week, with each article consisting of at least 400 words in length.  At such a rate, it is not unusual to have 100 visitors to your site on a daily basis.

Typically, 1% of interested visitors are likey to purchase your product or pay for your services.  Having 1000 unique visitors on a given day could translate to 10 sales.

These three points are not very difficult to keep in mind, so success in affiliate marketing or any business is a matter of investing in time and advertising as well as constructing an action plan.  Approaching each affiliate marketing program in this manner will eventually pay major dividends.
