Strategies for Keyword Advertising and Domain Monetization

keyword advertising and domain monetization strategies depend on your objectives and goals. A domainer often registers a domain with the objective of selling it for a profit. An affiliate marketer is interested in using a domain for a landing page to an affiliate offer or as a money site to convert either sales or actions (such as providing leads and information to an advertiser or vendor).

From a purist perspective, a domain name that is a generic term that is either commercially viable or geo-targeted is highly desirable for a domainer’s portfolio. One-word domains are deemed more valuable than multiple-words domains. Domain names that are acronyms that are short in the number of characters receive greater investment value.

For the affiliate marketer, domain names that contain keywords that are searched frequently are more attractive than domain names of generic terms. Why the difference here? When a website is constructed for search engine optimization (SEO) of a “buying” keyword, having the keyword in the domain name is favored by search engines in search rankings.

Can these two approaches or perspectives be combined? The answer is, most definitely yes.

Where can I find an advertising program where I can earn money with pay per click?

Google Adsense is Google’s advertising program that is the basis of the content network. Basically, the program lets you display Adsense ads on your site so you can earn money whenever a visitor clicks on a link, referred to as pay per click.  Google  searches your site then displays ads relational to your content.

Sometimes, the display ads are those of the competitors.  An affiliate program where you can choose keywords and the ads that show up accordingly would give you better control of the ads.

Yahoo Publishers Network’s contextual advertising program allows its publishers some control in choosing the keywords for a page, but the program is STILL in beta stage and available only to US publishers. It is not as easy to be approved as Adsense, but you can apply. It sometimes takes anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months to know if you’ve been accepted.
